Held
Gabrielle Aguinaldo
Acrylic on Round Canvas
In this piece, I hoped to share with the viewer the memory of our first home - the womb. 'Held' represents safety, fragility and above all, hope - the universal desire to be protected, especially in times of vulnerability. Inspired by the resilience of children receiving hospital care, this painting honours the idea that a healing space can just be as life -sustaining as the place we first called home. It seeks to share that wherever we are nurtured and held with love - that is home. Other information: Held is painted on a circular canvas, symbolizing the womb, our first sanctuary. At its center is a curled fetus, its head gently bowed in a state of peace. The anterior fontanelle is subtly shaped like a diamond, representing both vulnerability and the preciousness of life. Metallic teal evokes the protective embrace of amniotic waters, while Irridescent white outlines the child in a halo of purity and potential. Flowing gold represents the umbilical cord,a lifeline and connection to care. Scattered red and gold accents radiate around the figure like petals or bursts of light, symbolizing joy, hope, and the love that surrounds children in their journey through healing.
